Butylated Hydroxy Anisole (BHA)

Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA) is an antioxidant consisting of a mixture of two isomeric organic compounds, 2-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyanisole and 3-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyanisole. The food antioxidants, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxy-toluene (BHT) were fed to chickens to determine their effect on lipid metabolism.

Benefits of BHA - Butylated Hydroxy Anisole

At low concentrations, it is used as an antioxidant in fat-containing foods, in edible fats and oils, and as a preservative and antioxidant in cosmetic formulations. The primary use for BHA is as an antioxidant and preservative in food, food packaging, animal feed, cosmetics, rubber, and petroleum products.Itis used to prevent fats in foods from going rancid and as a defoaming agent for yeast.
